Chapter 13 – Elijah seeks eternal life

Alaric Ye happily embraced the robe and approached the pretty senior sister who was distributing the Universe Bags.

The senior sister handed over a palm-sized Universe Bag embroidered with the three bold characters "Top Xuan Sect" and adorned with auspicious clouds and celestial cranes.

Perhaps because she found Alaric Ye handsome and noticed the attention he received from the steward and Mysterious Spirit Daoist, the senior sister was very friendly. She smiled warmly and said, "Junior Brother, quickly recognize the bag as your own with a drop of blood. As long as you can gather a tiny bit of magical power, you can use the Universe Bag. You can put your robe inside."

"Additionally, I must remind you that the Universe Bag is extremely precious. If you lose it, the sect won't replace it for free."

"In such a case, you would need to spend ten Spirit Stones to get a new one from the Miscellaneous Hall. If you need a larger Universe Bag, you'll have to exchange it with sect contribution points. Of course, if you have enough Spirit Stones, you can also trade with other cultivators. But be wary, the cultivation world is full of deceit."

Alaric Ye thanked the senior sister, then squeezed a drop of blood from the still-healing wound on his finger onto the Universe Bag. The bag absorbed his blood, and Alaric felt a mysterious connection form between him and the bag.

When he looked inside the Universe Bag, he saw it was empty. The space wasn't large, roughly enough to fit a small square table for four.

With a thought, the robe in his hand disappeared and reappeared inside the Universe Bag. Another thought brought the robe back into his hand.

This made Alaric even more excited. It was undoubtedly an immortal's skill!

"What a clever Junior Martial Brother…"

The pretty senior sister smiled and praised Alaric again.

Alaric then walked over to the senior brother distributing books. A large stack of books was already prepared for him.

"Junior Brother, make sure to carefully study our sect's rules when you have time. In three months, there will be an exam on the rules. If you fail, there will be penalties. If you can't read, the Miscellaneous Hall has teachers who hold daily classes."

"If you want to learn more advanced knowledge in the future, you'll need to spend contribution points to access our Top Xuan Sect's Library Pavilion. We have a collection of a hundred thousand volumes, covering all sorts of topics. You can learn anything you want!"

Among the stack of books were "Top Xuan Sect Rules," "Dragon-seeking Mountain Range Observations," "Essentials of Breathing Techniques," "Detailed Explanation of Basic Spells," "Top Xuan Body Forging Technique," "Top Xuan Swordsmanship," and more.

Alaric was very curious about the contents of the books but couldn't read them immediately. He decided to store them all in the Universe Bag.

After respectfully thanking the senior brother, Alaric approached the senior brother distributing Black Iron swords. A Black Iron sword in a light blue scabbard was handed to him, and Alaric accepted it with great respect.

On the surface, he appeared calm, but inside, he was extremely excited. Alaric finally had his first weapon!

The senior brother who handed out the Black Iron sword whispered to Alaric, "Junior Brother Ye, the Black Iron sword is ultimately a mundane item. It's fine for practicing swordsmanship, but don't use it to fight demons and monsters."

"I've heard that you have excellent cultivation potential. You should soon reach the first level of Qi Refining. Once you do, you'll have the power of a Red-scaled Fiery Horse. You'll be able to control magical artifacts far more powerful than the Black Iron sword. However, obtaining magical artifacts requires a lot of contribution points, so you'll need to work hard for the sect."

Alaric nodded, "Thank you for the reminder, Senior Brother!"

On the flying boat, Alaric had already been bombarded with a lot of cultivation knowledge by a group of senior sisters. He now understood that in the cultivation world, the power of an immortal's magic was measured in specific units.

Typically, the unit used to measure magical power was the Red-scaled Fiery Horse, which provided foot power for low-level cultivators!

It was said that the Red-scaled Fiery Horse had fiery red scales, could travel a thousand miles a day, climb mountains, and cross rivers. Its strength was far beyond that of ordinary horses.

Having the power of one Fiery Horse meant that one could use magic to win a tug-of-war against a strong Red-scaled Fiery Horse!

Powerful Foundation Establishment stage cultivators had the strength of dozens of Fiery Horses. Their surging magical power could lift huge rocks and move houses as easily as eating and drinking.

He also heard from the senior sisters that Golden Elixir stage experts had the strength of hundreds of Fiery Horses. They could level city walls, cause mountains to collapse, and sweep away mortal armies with ease!

And the Golden Elixir stage was far from the end of cultivation.

Alaric had always known that immortals could fly, escape, and live forever. Their boundless power could move mountains and fill seas, but he never had a concrete understanding. Now he finally had a clearer idea of how powerful immortals truly were.

It was no wonder that mortal nations with billions of people were under the control of the Immortal Sects. Even the emperor, the supreme ruler, had to show respect to members of the Immortal Sects and kneel before Golden Elixir experts.

Next, Alaric was led by a senior brother to the dormitory for miscellaneous disciples. He noticed that the dormitories for male and female miscellaneous disciples were separate.

On the way, the senior brother explained many common practices to them.

Although they were now miscellaneous disciples of the Top Xuan Sect, they were only preparatory disciples. Without reaching the first level of Qi Refining and gaining the power of one Fiery Horse, they couldn't even perform the chores of the Top Xuan Sect.

The sect would give everyone a year. After a year, if they still hadn't reached the first level of Qi Refining and gained the power of one Fiery Horse, they would be expelled, all their immortal treasures confiscated, and sent back to the mortal world.

Alaric then realized that most of the rogue cultivators in the mortal world were those who had failed to become official miscellaneous disciples and were sent back. Even though being sent back was disgraceful, they could still enjoy a lifetime of wealth and honor in the mortal world.

However, this meant they had no chance of achieving immortality.

Although Alaric had been a slave since childhood, he always wanted more than just becoming a person of high status and enjoying wealth. He understood that even the wealthiest mortals were still under someone's control.

In his view, even the emperor of the Great Xuan Dynasty, the most powerful and wealthy person among ten billion people, was just a high-ranking servant of the Top Xuan Sect.

What he sought was eternal life, boundless freedom, and a life where no one could ever oppress him again!

Therefore, he had no interest in being sent back to enjoy wealth on purpose.

According to the senior brother, breaking through to the first level of Qi Refining within a year wasn't difficult. Most preparatory miscellaneous disciples could succeed. His potential was even better than that of ordinary preparatory disciples, so he should be able to advance quickly.

During the preparatory period, there was no Spirit Stone stipend. Only after becoming an official miscellaneous disciple and contributing to the Top Xuan Sect would they receive a monthly stipend of two Spirit Stones.

In other words, the preparatory period was mainly for learning the basics of the cultivation world and increasing their cultivation.

The treatment of preparatory miscellaneous disciples was relatively poor. Regardless of their status in the mortal world, even the princes and grandsons of the Great Xuan Dynasty, everyone was only assigned a small dormitory of three meters in length and width.

The dormitory had a bed, a neatly folded quilt, a delicate meditation cushion, a small table, and several stools. There was also a cabinet at the head of the bed.

After the senior brother who assigned the dormitory left, Alaric excitedly closed the door, took a deep breath, clenched his fists, and revealed a nearly crazed smile, though he didn't dare laugh out loud.

Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!

The sound of the wind was from him excitedly swinging his fists.

He had finally officially joined the Immortal Sect. From this moment on, he could be considered half an Immortal Elder.

To truly become an Immortal Elder, he needed to reach the first level of Qi Refining and gain the power of one Fiery Horse!
