Chapter 44 – Task, insult Evan Chen

After Olivia Zhong left, Evan Chen didn’t dive into cultivation.

In the serene courtyard, Evan lay under the massive phoenix tree, contemplating life.

These past days, his trip to the Lower Realm had been quite exhilarating.

But in the Upper Realm, he was just a small fry.

Would he always be stuck in this tiny courtyard? What was the point of that?

Moreover, if Laura Nangong’s oath was ever lifted, he wouldn’t even have this little corner to stay in.

After much thought, Evan concluded that the only way out was to quickly improve his strength.

At the very least, he needed to reach the True Immortal Realm, so he wouldn’t fear Sophia Ji and that Ascendant, Sophia Murong.

Reaching the True Immortal Realm was no easy feat.

Even a top genius like Sophia Murong took thirty years to go from the Sixth Immortal Realm to the True Immortal Realm.

With Evan’s own aptitude, following the standard cultivation path would take at least three hundred years to reach the True Immortal Realm.

“If I had known, I should have just gone for it and practiced the True Demon Heart Sutra!”

This thought flashed through Evan’s mind.

It only lingered for two breaths before the images of those servant girls flitted through his mind, and he cursed himself for being crazy.

“If only my aptitude could change,” Evan thought.

A cultivator’s aptitude not only determined their cultivation speed but also their realm limit.

With Evan’s Pure Sword Body, without any fortuitous encounters, he would at most reach the peak of the True Immortal Realm, and that would take tens of thousands of years of hard work.

“Right, I should ask the Female Demon someday. She knows a lot of unconventional methods; maybe she has a way to improve my aptitude!”

Evan mused.

“Evan Chen, you shameless dog, get out here!”

“If you have even a shred of dignity, come out now.”

“You coward, did you hear me? Get out here and kneel before us, or I’ll skin you alive when I catch you.”

Suddenly, a barrage of curses came from outside the courtyard.

Evan sprang up from under the phoenix tree, circled around the massive trunk, and peered over the fence.

He saw a few disciples in white robes, shouting and laughing.

Evan didn’t need to think to know they were sent by Sophia Ji.

Sophia Ji didn’t come herself, knowing he wouldn’t dare come out, so she sent these lackeys to humiliate him.

Honestly, Evan was quite angry.

Going out was definitely not an option, but could he not curse back?

Evan walked to the fence, striking a proud pose, “You little bastards, born without mothers, what are you yelling about? Come in if you have the guts, come hit your grandpa!”

The few disciples didn’t expect Evan to not only show himself but also curse back, and they were instantly infuriated.

“You little scum, come out if you dare, see if I don’t beat the crap out of you!”

“Come out, come out now!”

They shouted and clamored.

Evan turned around, fetched a stool from the small house, and leisurely crossed his legs.

“Your grandpa isn’t coming out. If you have the guts, come bite me. I could crush you all with one finger!”

Hearing Evan’s arrogant words, the disciples outside were so enraged they gnashed their teeth, wishing they could skin him alive and eat his flesh.

But they couldn’t get in, so they could only continue shouting and cursing outside.

Evan didn’t listen to what they were saying, he just cursed back.

Gradually, Evan found this quite fun.

“Evan Chen, you little turtle egg, you’ll die a horrible death. Come out and fight me one-on-one.”

“Huh? Damn, it’s that brat Alex Li!”

Evan didn’t see Alex Li, but he recognized his voice.

“Alex Li, you bastard, why are you hiding behind those animals? Are you a dung beetle?” Evan shouted at the top of his lungs.

Behind the group, Alex Li instantly bristled.

Evan, that bastard, had sharp ears to recognize him like this.

Actually, Alex Li didn’t know today’s task was to curse Evan Chen. He was a bit sullen at first, thinking he joined the spirit cave for cultivation, not for chores.

But when he found out they were here to bully Evan Chen, he was delighted. He had taken quite a few beatings from Evan recently, and at a critical moment, Evan had reported him, causing the third elder to give him a harsh lesson.

Alex Li couldn’t swallow this grudge.

“Evan Chen, are you really so shameless? If you’re a man, come out and fight!” Alex Li stepped out from behind the group, staring mockingly at Evan.

“Didn’t you get enough beatings? I could crush you with just one toe.” Evan said calmly.

“Stop pretending. You know your own worth. Come out and fight me fair and square. The loser leaves Sky Moon Cave, how about that?” Alex Li said.

Evan’s hands itched, wanting to beat Alex Li up.

He calculated that now he was also in the Fourth Immortal Realm, and had mastered the Ancient Sword Art, there was no reason he couldn’t beat Alex.

But going out was not an option; he would definitely be ganged up on.

He had to find a way to lure Alex in.

So, Evan walked to the edge of the fence and said, “You really want to fight? Then make them promise not to interfere, and I’ll fight you!”

The disciples were overjoyed.

They thought Evan was really stupid, falling for a few taunts and daring to come out.

Once he came out, they would swarm him and break his bones.

“Senior brothers, let’s agree to his terms. I’ll fight him, and you won’t interfere.” Alex Li also just wanted to lure Evan out.

“Alright, a man of his word. Come out, we won’t interfere.” One of them said confidently.

Evan said, “Step back, or I won’t come out.”

They immediately stepped back.

Then, Evan beckoned to Alex Li, “Come over, let’s set the rules first!”

Seeing success within reach, and knowing Evan’s weak strength posed no threat, Alex Li walked to the edge of the fence.

At that moment, Evan activated the restriction token, opening an exit.

He grabbed Alex Li’s shoulder and yanked him into the courtyard, then immediately closed the restriction.

Everyone was stunned.

Alex Li was also bewildered.

When he realized what had happened, Alex Li laughed maniacally, “You fool, do you think dragging me in means you won’t get beaten? Watch my iron fist!”

The disciples outside were also delighted.

Miss had only tasked them with humiliating Evan, but now they could beat him up too, the reward would surely be generous!

“Evan Chen, you punched me 132 times, slapped me 77 times. Today, I’ll pay you back double!” Alex Li was ecstatic, feeling like he was about to avenge a great grudge.

“Remember it so clearly?” Evan raised an eyebrow.

“Of course, every life-and-death grudge is recorded in my notebook.” Alex Li said, pulling out a stack of yellow paper, densely filled with Evan’s offenses.

Evan was speechless. So, this guy had a revenge notebook too?

Unfortunately, he miscalculated. Today, he was destined to write a whole new chapter in his revenge notebook.
