Chapter 31 – Letter delivery

Mount Nine Splendid.

A renowned immortal mountain spanning thousands of miles.

Among its peaks, Sky Moon Cave is one of the four prominent caves.

“Though it can’t compare to the Holy Land, it still has a certain spiritual charm.”

Even Olivia Zhong couldn’t help but praise as she gazed at the endless mountain range.

“Hey, Senior Sister, why do you look different?”

Evan Chen turned his head at the sound, only to find that not only had Olivia’s important features grown, but her face had also changed.

Olivia glanced down at her chest and then glared at Evan with resentment. “Pig brain, do you think the people from the Fire Cloud Holy Land are as stupid as you? How could I avoid being tracked if I didn’t change my appearance?”

Evan smacked his lips and said, “The Immortal World is so vast, they might not even track us here.”

Olivia couldn’t be bothered to respond and pointed to a torn wall ahead, where a portrait was posted with the words “Demon Wanted” written in bold.

Seeing Olivia’s likeness on the portrait, Evan stuck out his tongue and pretended nothing had happened. “I think using portraits for wanted notices is the dumbest idea ever. Don’t they know people can disguise themselves? Utterly ignorant.”

Olivia: “…”

Alex Li felt disdain in his heart. This guy’s intelligence is worrying, and he’s shameless to boot.

Then he said, “Fairy… Miss Zhong, ahead is Nine Splendid City. I’ll go contact some acquaintances to prepare for tomorrow’s entrance.”

Olivia extended a finger and tapped Alex’s shoulder. “I’ve planted a deadly poison in your body. If you dare play any tricks, no matter where you run, I can make you die a horrible death. Got it?”

Alex cursed inwardly but nodded respectfully on the surface, then went into the city on his own.

“What about you? Didn’t you say you’re some Little Uncle? Aren’t you going to make some connections?”

After Alex left, Olivia looked at Evan.

“No rush, we’ll see tomorrow.”

Evan replied leisurely, looking confident.

In reality, he was uncertain. He wasn’t even sure if the current master of Sky Moon Cave was still James Li’s disciple.

It might have changed hands long ago.

Afterward, Evan and Olivia entered Nine Splendid City together.

It was said that Nine Splendid City was originally a gathering place for those who failed to find a master. Over time, more and more people gathered, eventually forming a bustling city.

After wandering around the city for a while, Evan noticed that people frequently asked if he needed a letter delivered.

At first, Evan was very cautious, fearing he might encounter a scammer.

Later, he understood that Mount Nine Splendid had its own rules. Those who were not disciples of the mountain’s caves were not allowed to enter before the assessment opened.

This created an obstacle for those who wanted to pull strings, leading to the emergence of letter couriers as a profession.

These couriers had connections and their own channels to get in.

Evan thought about it and decided to send a letter in advance. Who knows what might happen tomorrow?

“How much to send a letter?”

Evan inquired from a man soliciting letter delivery services.

“It depends on the level. Ten Immortal Crystals to deliver to an outer disciple, a thousand to an outer elder. Fifteen hundred to an inner disciple, five thousand to an inner elder. Eight thousand to a core disciple, fifty thousand to a core elder. Sir, which level of letter are you planning to send?”

Seeing business, the man cheerfully explained.

What a rip-off, Evan thought. But he still asked, “How much to send a letter to the master of the cave?”

“Are you sure, sir?” The man looked at Evan in surprise.

Judging by this kid’s attire, he didn’t seem to come from a big family. How could he have connections with a cave master?

But then again, you can’t judge a book by its cover. Some people are just low-key by nature. Besides, if he were an ordinary person, that stunning beauty beside him wouldn’t be interested in him!

“Of course,” Evan replied.

The man smiled obsequiously and said, “If you really have that connection, I wouldn’t dare charge you. I’d be honored to deliver the letter for free and hope you can look after me in the future.”

Evan laughed. What a stroke of luck.

Thinking about it, it made sense. In their line of work, they always needed to make connections. Making friends with someone who had ties to a cave master was worth delivering a letter for free.

However, Evan was still worried. “How can you guarantee it will be delivered? What if you run off?”

The man quickly explained, “Sir, look behind you. That’s my family’s store. We’ve been in business for thousands of years. If the letter isn’t delivered, you can come back and smash the shop. I won’t complain.”

Evan turned to look.

In front of the small shop, a long line had formed, all needing letters delivered.

“Goodness, everyone is pulling strings?” Evan was speechless.

“It’s not exactly pulling strings. These days, without someone to introduce you, the immortal mountain caves won’t even bother with you. Isn’t that right, sir?” the man said.

Evan nodded silently. That was true.

Nowadays, only the famous mountain caves had abundant Immortal Energy left. Ordinary immortals yearning for cultivation were as numerous as cattle. Without some background, why would they accept you?

Evan stopped hesitating, took out the letter, and handed it to the man.

The man glanced at it. The envelope read “To my beloved disciple, Laura Nangong.” This shocked the man. Wasn’t Laura Nangong the master of Sky Moon Cave?

It seemed this kid indeed had some background, introduced by Laura Nangong’s master!

As for whether the letter was genuine, the man didn’t even consider it. Who would dare to impersonate someone with connections to the cave master?

With the letter delivery settled, Evan planned to have a hearty meal at an inn.

“Does the master of Sky Moon Cave know you?”

“No.”

“Then how will she know the letter is from you tomorrow?”

Evan was dumbfounded by Olivia’s question.

Seeing Evan’s dumbfounded look, Olivia was not angry but pleased. “Anyway, whoever helps me sneak into Sky Moon Cave tomorrow will live. Some people will pay dearly for their stupidity.”

Evan, still in a daze, remembered the token Big Brother Li had given him and relaxed. “Just kidding. I have the token. Why wouldn’t she recognize it?”

Olivia’s disdainful smile vanished, and she wanted to strangle Evan.

The night passed without incident.

The next day, the four caves of Mount Nine Splendid opened their doors to recruit disciples.

At a plaza at the foot of the mountain, each of the four caves had set up a pre-selection platform. Passing the pre-selection allowed one to proceed to the entrance assessment.

The vast plaza was filled with hundreds of thousands of people.

Yet, the four caves combined only planned to accept eight hundred people.

“What’s going on? Why can’t I get in!”

At the edge of the massive plaza, over seventy percent of the people were blocked by a restriction, while the rest entered without any hindrance.

Those who couldn’t enter were deemed unqualified in terms of physique or bloodline and were directly eliminated.

Fortunately, Evan had a Pure Sword Body, not the best but better than most, and he passed through the plaza’s restriction smoothly.

The huge plaza had channels set up for each of the four caves.

Thanks to the formation, there was no chaos despite the large crowd.

Seeing this grand scene, Evan felt excited, thinking that after today, he could cultivate in the Spirit Mountain. The days of punching demons and kicking Immortal Emperors were just around the corner!

“Kid, look over there.”

Lost in his fantasies, Evan was jolted awake by Olivia’s cold voice.

Following Olivia’s gaze, Evan saw a banner hanging in front of the Sky Moon Cave’s recruitment platform. It read: “Evan Chen and dogs are not allowed to enter.”
