Chapter 16 – Evil monk, the urge to kill

The young girl in red stomped her foot anxiously.

These thousand mid-grade Spirit Stones were meant for her sect to purchase talismans from the Tianfu Sect to deal with the recent appearance of that demon monk.

But now, she had lost everything trying to make a profit from trading spirit herbs.

“It’s all your fault, Senior Brother!”

She kicked the young man beside her in anger.

The man got up, his face contorted in pain from the slap Evan Chen had given him.

“How was I supposed to know he was at the Elemental Infant stage?” The man felt a bit regretful but was still defiant. “Junior Sister, let’s hurry back to the sect and get some people to capture that bastard and torture him.”

“You still have the nerve to catch others! Besides, he looks about our age, probably only sixteen or seventeen. To reach the Elemental Infant stage at such a young age, his sect must be formidable. If we really provoke him, our sect might even tie you up and send you to apologize.” The girl in red was fuming.

The man shrank his neck; his junior sister’s words made sense.

It seemed they had kicked an iron plate this time.

“So, Junior Sister, what should we do?”

“What else can we do? You have to compensate for those thousand mid-grade Spirit Stones. No matter what, we must buy the talismans back. Otherwise, you can wait to be crippled and expelled from the sect!”

“I don’t have that many Spirit Stones.”

The man cried like a woman in distress.

“I don’t care.” The girl in red turned her face away, not wanting to see his pathetic state, and added, “Don’t you have that family heirloom ‘Ice Silkworm Treasure Robe’? Sell it.”

“How can I do that? If my father finds out, he’ll kill me.” The man was agitated.

“Then figure it out yourself.”

After some discussion, the man decided to pawn the family heirloom at the Tianfu Sect and get the talismans back first.

After Evan Chen came out, he first bought a few sets of clothes.

Then, he leisurely strolled around the streets for half a day.

During this time, he heard some interesting news.

First, it was said that a “Forbidden Zone” had appeared just a dozen miles outside this town, attracting many experts from various sects to investigate.

Second, a demon monk had recently appeared in the area under the jurisdiction of the Taihao Immortal Sect, killing many people. Several major sects were joining forces to hunt him down.

Evan Chen wasn’t initially interested in this “demon monk.”

However, when he used his Immortal Sense to probe the Forbidden Zone, he discovered a monk filled with demonic energy entering the so-called Forbidden Zone.

The strangest part was that the area of the Forbidden Zone was impenetrable even to his Immortal Sense.

“Interesting, let’s go take a look.”

Soon, Evan Chen arrived at a mountain hollow outside the city.

Ahead, a hundred-mile radius was shrouded in a layer of gray mist, marking the Forbidden Zone.

Outside the Forbidden Zone, several major sects had sent experts to investigate.

“Forbidden Zone ahead, stop right there!”

Evan Chen was about to enter when a disciple in green from one of the sects drew his sword to block him, still a dozen yards from the edge of the gray mist.

“No need to worry about my safety,” Evan Chen said calmly.

“Screw you, who the hell cares if you live or die? This place has been declared a Forbidden Zone by our three major sects. No one is allowed to approach. Get lost!” the man said arrogantly.

“Is that so?” Evan Chen raised an eyebrow. “Then I also declare this place a Forbidden Zone from now on. Get lost!”

The disciple in green was stunned by Evan Chen’s words.

The other experts nearby immediately sensed that Evan Chen was no weakling.

“Junior Brother, if he wants to seek death, let him,” a young man in white called out, signaling the disciple in green to step aside.

“Yes, Senior Brother.”

The disciple in green reluctantly retreated.

Evan Chen couldn’t be bothered to teach them a lesson and walked straight into the Forbidden Zone.

Behind him, the sect experts looked on with disdain.

“Just an Elemental Infant stage cultivator, daring to act tough in the Forbidden Zone. He won’t even know how he died.”

“Probably an ignorant rogue cultivator. His death is not worth mourning.”

“Amitabha, truly the fearless are the ignorant. Let me offer him a prayer,” said a monk.

“Master Mengyi, you are truly compassionate. By the way, Master Mengyi, have you caught the traitor who fell into the demonic path?” an elder from the Taihao Sect asked.

“We are here precisely for that matter,” the monk replied.

“Oh? Could it be that the traitor is hiding in the Forbidden Zone?”

“Indeed.”

Entering the gray mist area.

At first, Evan Chen was cautious.

As he ventured deeper, he didn’t sense any danger.

The gray mist only had a strong ability to block Immortal Sense, causing no harm to Evan Chen.

Inside, the influence on his Immortal Sense was significantly reduced.

Within a hundred-mile radius, Evan Chen’s Immortal Sense easily covered the area.

In the next moment, he disappeared and reappeared in front of a cave exuding dark energy.

“Didn’t expect you, Monk Max Zhi, to fall into the demonic path in just a month. Truly strange.”

Evan Chen spoke towards the cave, his voice like rolling thunder echoing inside.

Indeed!

The demon monk being hunted by the sects was none other than Monk Max Zhi from Wuming Peak a month ago.

The moment Evan Chen entered the gray mist area, he used his Immortal Sense to lock onto Max Zhi’s aura and position, recognizing him immediately.

Inside the cave, Max Zhi was meditating in a black water pool.

Hearing the chilling voice, he instinctively stood up.

At this moment, his face was dark, and his once bright eyes had turned into two ghastly black holes.

“Who are you!”

Max Zhi’s demonic energy surged as he grabbed a skull staff beside him and flew out.

“Boom!”

Max Zhi didn’t care who the intruder was!

They all deserved to die!

With a swing of his staff, demonic flames roared.

The torrent of dark demonic energy transformed into terrifying skulls, rushing towards Evan Chen.

Evan Chen activated his Immortal Power and struck with a simple palm.

He didn’t bother with flashy techniques.

The two forces collided, and the Immortal Power crushed the demonic energy into nothingness.

Even Monk Max Zhi was sent flying by the Immortal Power, crashing heavily into the mountain wall behind him.

“Hahaha!”

Despite being injured, Monk Max Zhi laughed maniacally.

“What have I done to deserve a Land Immortal expert coming to kill me? You hypocritical scoundrels will one day go to hell, never to be reborn!”

With that, he raised his demonic staff, ready to strike himself down.

Facing a Land Immortal, Max Zhi knew he had no chance of resisting. It was better to end his life with dignity.

“Tsk tsk, your eyes were gouged out. It’s tragic, but there’s no need to seek death. I gave you Immortal Crystals, and you gave me Buddhist Beads. We have some connection, don’t we? Let’s talk.”

Upon hearing this, the demonic staff in Max Zhi’s hand halted.

“You, you are that senior!” Monk Max Zhi finally understood.

Before Evan Chen could respond, Monk Max Zhi knelt heavily, black blood tears streaming from his eye sockets.

“Senior! I beg you to seek justice for me!”

Evan Chen wasn’t inclined to meddle, but he was curious about how a Buddhist prodigy had turned into this in just a month.

“Stand up and speak.”

Evan Chen said calmly.

Max Zhi didn’t stand up but kowtowed, tears streaming down his face. “Senior, after you bestowed the Immortal Crystals upon me, I intended to take them back to my sect to save our ancestor. But a few greedy uncles intercepted me. They wanted to share the Immortal Crystals with me. When I refused, they brutally beat me.

“I lost my eyes and mortal roots, but that was nothing. Poor Shirley was falsely accused of receiving fake Immortal Crystals from you. Those scoundrel monks captured her and imprisoned her under the True Thunder Tower, subjecting her to endless torment. I tried to rescue her but was too weak…”

Evan Chen didn’t expect such a turn of events!

He was furious!

He had an urge to kill.

However, he suppressed his rage and asked, “Why didn’t they kill you? Why are you in the Forbidden Zone?”

Max Zhi replied, “Senior, I was indeed killed by those scoundrel monks and thrown into a river. When I woke up, I found myself in a cave pool, the one behind me, and somehow fell into the demonic path.”

Evan Chen nodded slightly and asked, “You said you tried to rescue Shirley. Why didn’t you explain the situation to your sect’s ancestor?”

Max Zhi sighed deeply, “By then, I had already fallen into the demonic path. No one in the sect believed me. If not for the demonic energy protecting me, I would have been killed by my former fellow disciples.”

“I see.”

Evan Chen, having understood the situation, couldn’t suppress his urge to kill.
