Chapter 9 – Mason Zhu, how tragic can it be

What kind of terrifying battle could destroy an entire realm?

Driven by curiosity, Evan Chen continued his exploration.

Another day passed, and Evan had visited many ruins with unique auras.

He hoped to find some leftover treasures, but there was nothing. Everything had turned to dust and ashes, long since weathered away.

However, he did find quite a few remnants of written information.

Most were fragments of cultivation techniques from this realm, and some were historical records.

After gathering enough snippets, Evan roughly understood what had happened.

The destruction of this realm was related to a demonic cultivator named Mason Zhu. It was said that his origins were unknown, and when he appeared, his demonic aura was overwhelming. Even the Ninth Immortal Realm experts of this world couldn't match him.

"Stronger than the Ninth Immortal Realm? That seems impossible."

Evan was puzzled.

Logically, there shouldn't be any cultivators stronger than the Ninth Immortal Realm in the Cultivation World.

Unless… an Immortal Emperor descended!

"That's even more impossible. If it were an Immortal Emperor, a single thought could destroy a realm. It wouldn't have been such a fierce battle."

This made Evan even more curious.

"Could it be that this so-called demonic cultivator also came from another realm?"

Evan thought of this possibility.

"Maybe I'm not the only one who has a cross-realm stone!"

Evan had his reasons for thinking this. He didn't believe the Heavenly Father would favor him alone.

If he could find a cross-realm stone while mining, why couldn't the countless beings in the Immortal World have the same luck?

"Keep searching!"

To get to the bottom of this, Evan continued his exploration.

A few hours later, Evan arrived at a massive crater spanning a thousand miles.

The bones here hadn't petrified; instead, they were as smooth as jade.

Evan judged that each of these skeletons had to be at least of the Eighth or Ninth Immortal Realm.

And there were tens of thousands of such skeletons!

This left Evan utterly shocked!

This place was once just a Cultivation World. How could it have nurtured tens of thousands of Eighth and Ninth Immortal Realm experts?

"What a pity about these immortal weapons and artifacts, all destroyed."

Evan looked at the broken immortal weapons scattered all over the ground and couldn't help but feel a sense of loss, as if he had missed out on a fortune.

However, although everything was destroyed, some materials could still be reforged and sold for a small profit.

After quickly gathering the slightly useful items, Evan stuffed them all into his storage bag.

Reaching the center of the crater, Evan saw a particularly unique skeleton.

The skeleton was as black as ink jade, and even though it had been dead for countless millennia, it still exuded a malevolent aura.

If Evan were an ordinary cultivator and not from the Immortal Realm, he would have been dissolved into pus by this aura.

"Curse you, Cody Xuan! If I am reborn, I will grind your bones to dust, hate, hate, hate!"

A line of blood-red text appeared before Evan's eyes.

"This… could he be referring to Cody Xuan, the Immortal Emperor?"

Evan was taken aback.

The Immortal World was vast, and each major domain had its own Immortal Emperor. Among them was the well-known Cody Xuan, the Immortal Emperor.

This Cody Xuan was a very young Immortal Emperor, said to have risen to power six thousand years ago, almost out of nowhere. No one knew his true origins.

If this guy had a grudge against an Immortal Emperor, then he must have been terrifyingly powerful!

"After all, he's just a dead man. No need to be afraid."

Evan patted his chest and started looking for any treasures.

After searching around, Evan didn't find anything useful.

This made him a bit unwilling.

After spending more than ten hours here, he hadn't found Shirley, and he hadn't gained any benefits. It was a total loss.

Feeling frustrated, Evan kicked the skeleton.

As the skeleton fell, a blood-red bead appeared.

"Huh?"

Without thinking, Evan reached out to grab it.

The moment his hand touched the bead, he felt as if he had been struck by lightning, his entire body stiffening.

Waves of blood surged, rendering him immobile and unable to escape. He could only watch as the blood waves engulfed him.

Before Evan could regret it, his surroundings changed. He found himself in a boundless dark red space.

In front of him floated a tall, cold-faced man in black.

"You must be very curious why someone as powerful as me ended up in the Cultivation World and why I died."

A cold, emotionless voice spoke.

"No, you've got it wrong, I'm not curious."

Evan was almost scared to death, shaking his head frantically.

But the cold-faced youth ignored Evan and continued, "You don't need to be afraid. If you weren't the person I was waiting for, you would have turned to ashes the moment you touched the Blood Bead. Seeing me means you have the qualifications to be my successor."

Evan was bewildered. Was he about to gain an opportunity?

But I'm nothing special, I haven't done anything. How could I be the person you're waiting for? You must be joking!

"Don't be so quick to rejoice. Having the qualifications doesn't mean you will definitely become my successor."

Evan was speechless. Who's rejoicing? I'm not rejoicing!

"Before you become my disciple, I'll answer the first question: why I appeared in the Cultivation World and why I died."

The youth finished speaking, and the scene before Evan changed.

***

Vivid images flashed before Evan's eyes, filling his mind with information.

After about a quarter of an hour, the images stopped, and the youth reappeared.

Evan's mind was now filled with a long and painful life story, leaving him deeply depressed.

Was this his experience?

This man was Mason Zhu, a descendant of an ancient immortal family in the northern lands of the Immortal World. Both his parents were Immortal Emperors.

A bona fide super Second Generation Immortal.

However, a catastrophe began when he was still in his mother's womb.

He had a twin brother, but a scheming Demon Emperor's soul possessed his brother in the womb.

While still in the womb, the Demon Emperor began to seize his Emperor Root and absorb his essence, nearly causing him to die before birth.

He barely survived to be born but was covered in sores and paralyzed, abandoned by his parents before he was ten. The Demon Emperor, however, received all the favor, taking everything that should have belonged to him and his brother.

In the long millennia that followed, Mason Zhu endured countless hardships and sufferings, but he also gained opportunities in the Forbidden Zone, eventually becoming an Immortal Sovereign.

One day, he broke through and intended to return with his fiancée, whom he had met in the Forbidden Zone, to seek revenge.

Unexpectedly, his fiancée betrayed him. For thousands of years, she had been using him to gain benefits from the Forbidden Zone.

As Mason Zhu was about to leave, she and her true partner joined forces to injure him, strip him of his Immortal Bone, extract his Immortal Tendon, and, after squeezing out his last bit of value, threw him into an abyssal rift.

Drifting in the abyssal rift for hundreds of years, he endured unimaginable physical and mental torment, eventually turning demonic and ending up in this Cultivation World.

Unfortunately, his immortal body had long since corroded, and his immortal power had dissipated. He needed to constantly devour immortal spirits to survive.

In the end, he fought against tens of thousands of peak experts in this realm. When his Immortal Soul self-destructed, the world was destroyed, and everything perished.

"How tragic!"

Evan's head ached. Mason Zhu had forcibly implanted his painful life experiences into Evan's mind.

That was over ten thousand years of hatred, loneliness, pain, and resentment. How could an ordinary Immortal World commoner like Evan bear it?

Evan was on the verge of collapse, almost at the brink of life and death.
