Chapter 4 – How should I repay the Immortal Elder?

"You, stand up!" Evan Chen appeared calm and composed, but his mind was already in turmoil.

Whoa!

He didn't realize until he saw it, and it gave him quite a shock.

From every angle, it was a grand scene indeed.

Moreover, this little demoness, with her fragile and pitiful demeanor, added a touch of allure that Evan, a novice, couldn't resist.

"I assume you didn't dare to disturb me on purpose. Considering your cultivation is not easy, I will grant you a piece of Immortal Fate. Are you willing to follow me and become my mount?"

Evan had heard this line from James Li.

Back then, James had used this very line to subdue a group of Rabbit Demons, making Evan envious.

He didn't expect to encounter a similar situation just after descending to the Lower Realm.

The Snake Demon still looked timid, cautiously staring at Evan but not daring to respond.

"What? You don't want to? Then get lost!" Evan roared in feigned anger.

The Snake Demon trembled in fear and quickly knelt down.

"But… but I don't know the Immortal Elder's cultivation level?"

Evan was taken aback. This demoness was worried that his cultivation wasn't high enough to qualify as her master?

Just as he was about to answer, he recalled James Li's advice: always keep some things hidden, and it would bring benefits.

So, he said, "You demon, I am a peak-stage cultivator. Do you think I'm not qualified to take a mere Tribulation Crossing stage demon as my mount?"

In the Cultivation World, the realms are divided into: Qi Refinement, Foundation Establishment, Void, Elemental Infant, Divine Transformation, Tribulation Crossing, Body Fusion, peak-stage cultivator, Land Immortal (Free Immortal), and Immortal, totaling ten major realms.

"So, you're a peak-stage cultivator. I thought you were a Land Immortal! You must have some Immortal Artifacts or Magical Treasures!" The Snake Demon murmured to herself.

Then, with a submissive look, she said, "Little demon wouldn't dare to despise the Immortal Elder. It's just that I don't want to bring trouble to the Immortal Elder, so I dare not agree."

"Oh?" Evan raised an eyebrow and said, "Tell me, what trouble would I face if I took you as my mount?"

The Snake Demon looked up, tears in her eyes, and said pitifully, "Immortal Elder, I was just a little Green Snake at the foot of the Brahma Sound Sect. I accidentally ate a Spirit Fruit, gained intelligence, and transformed into a demon. I thought it was a heavenly blessing, but the monks of the Brahma Sound Sect accused me of stealing their sacred fruit and said that transforming into a demon would only bring harm to the world. They have been hunting me ever since. If they catch me, they will surely skin me, pull out my tendons, and drink my blood… sob sob."

"So, you're afraid the monks of the Brahma Sound Sect will kill me too?" Evan said calmly.

"Exactly." The Snake Demon nodded, trembling, "The Immortal Elder helping me cross the tribulation is already a great kindness. I dare not bring more trouble to the Immortal Elder."

Evan pondered.

After a while, he said, "You have a point. There's no need for me to invite trouble."

The Snake Demon's body stiffened. This guy isn't playing by the rules!

Knowing her pitiful background, shouldn't he stand up for her and support her?

When did the Cultivation World's customs become so twisted?

For a moment, the Snake Demon was stunned, not knowing what to do.

After a short while, Evan spoke again, "In any case, I saved your life. Repay me first, and then you can leave."

The Snake Demon looked confused: "???"

Human cultivators are indeed no good. They always talk about not expecting anything in return, but deep down, they want to squeeze you dry.

Hmph, despicable!

"How does the Immortal Elder wish for the little demon to repay you?"

The Snake Demon lowered her head shyly, her voice as soft as a mosquito.

The more she acted like this, the more Evan felt an itch in his heart.

He was imitating James Li's way of subduing demons, and that guy never hesitated in his actions.

To learn, one must learn thoroughly. So Evan said, "In my hometown, saving someone's life is usually repaid by offering oneself."

Pah! Shameless! What a hypocritical scoundrel.

The Snake Demon cursed inwardly.

"The Immortal Elder says that saving a life should be repaid by offering oneself. But what if I were a man? How would the Immortal Elder respond?"

Evan: "???"

How would I respond to your sister!

He immediately activated his Immortal Sense, scanning the Snake Demon inside and out.

Fortunately, she wasn't a Male Demon.

This little demoness was quite mischievous, giving him a scare.

"A demon is a demon. Even if you transform, you don't have human emotions. I don't want to argue with you. Leave all your Magical Treasures and Elixirs, and you can go."

The demoness was evading the topic, clearly not intending to comply. As for using force or killing her directly, Evan couldn't do such a thing without discerning good from evil.

So, he would just take some benefits.

"Seriously! How did this turn into a robbery?" The Snake Demon rolled her eyes. Are high-level cultivators really so unpredictable?

This time, the Snake Demon truly felt like crying.

She stood up and said tearfully, "Immortal Elder, as you can see, I have nothing valuable. Where would I have any Elixirs or Magical Treasures?"

Evan looked once, then again, and yet again.

Indeed, she had nothing valuable.

Seeing Evan's cold expression and silence, the Snake Demon panicked. This guy was unpredictable, like a lunatic. What if he suddenly killed her?

It seemed she had hit a tough spot.

Maybe… she should comply first to save her life and then figure things out?

"Immortal Elder, it's all my fault for offending you. As long as you forgive me, I'll do whatever you ask."

"Fine, you finally understand." Evan was excited. The demoness finally got it.

"Taking you as my mount is a great opportunity. You should cherish it."

"I understand. How does the Immortal Elder prefer to ride?"

Evan was dumbfounded. Goodness, she was evasive earlier, but now she seemed to be playing along.

Big Brother Li was right; Lower Realm demonesses are all the same, they respond to force, not kindness.

"Well…"

Evan was momentarily embarrassed. Big Brother Li hadn't taught him this part; he had skipped it…

"Hehe, it seems the Immortal Elder is shy… Don't misunderstand, I meant what form you prefer. Should I be in my original body or human form?" The Snake Demon giggled, though she wasn't as relaxed as she appeared.

This person, dressed in rags and covered in dirt, didn't look like a powerful cultivator, yet he could control the Heavenly Tribulation. How could this be explained?

Moreover, his behavior was erratic and unpredictable. She couldn't be fooled by his shy, youthful appearance; one wrong move and she might be in trouble.

Hearing this, Evan blushed.

So she was asking about form, not posture.

Why didn't she say so earlier?

"Well, that depends on the situation and time. We'll discuss it later."

Evan awkwardly brushed it off.

"Amitabha, demon, where do you think you can run today!" At that moment, from the other side of the mountain, someone chanted a loud Buddhist mantra.

Immediately, a scent of incense filled the air.
