Oliver Sheng commanded an army of fifty thousand men, leaving only Cameron Guo’s five thousand heavy-armored Wei Wu Troops to guard River West County.
With veterans assisting in the defense and five thousand heavy-armored Wei Wu Troops, Oliver was not afraid of any enemy attacks.
Out of the forty-five thousand soldiers, only thirty-three thousand were regular combat troops.
The remaining twelve thousand were auxiliary and reserve soldiers, responsible for transporting supplies and tending to the warhorses.
Thirty thousand light cavalry and three thousand heavy cavalry marched grandly into the grasslands.
Battle flags fluttered fiercely, and long spears stood like a forest.
The wind from the Northern Frontier blew the horn of war.
Wherever the army passed, the terrifying aura of military might caused the animals on the grasslands to flee.
Thousands of soldiers and horses, with the momentum of a tiger, set out on a grand expedition that stretched for miles.
Scouts dispatched by Yu Lin to monitor the River West Army saw the massive army heading into the grasslands and quickly rushed back to report.
“Chief, bad news! The Wei army has set out!” the scout reported in a panic.
“The Wei army has set out? So soon!” Yu Lin, the new chief of the Xianyou Tribe, felt his heart sink.
He knew the Wei army would eventually target the Xianyou Tribe, but he hadn’t expected it to be so soon.
This lush grassland originally belonged to Great Wei, and it wasn’t a matter of a day or two for Great Wei to reclaim it.
His father, the legendary guardian of the sea, was missing, and now he had gathered two hundred thousand tribal warriors. But without a Great Grandmaster to hold the fort, how could they defend this grassland?
Was he really going to have to beg other royal tribes for help?
But if he did that, the grassland would change hands.
Yu Lin, only at the mid-stage of Grandmaster, couldn’t think of a strategy to defeat the enemy.
“Someone, come!” Yu Lin shouted.
“Chief,” a general quickly entered.
“Send people to the Gudi Tribe and the Shanrong Tribe for help. Tell them the Wei army has invaded the grasslands,” Yu Lin finally made up his mind.
Even if the grassland ended up being occupied by the Gudi or Shanrong Tribes, he would rather that than let Great Wei reclaim it.
This grassland was an excellent pasture for horses. If Great Wei reclaimed it, they could raise a large number of warhorses and might launch a northern expedition.
Whether occupied by the Gudi Tribe or the Shanrong Tribe, this fertile grassland would still belong to the barbarians.
“Yes, Chief.” The general hurried out to send troops to the two tribes for aid.
“Pass my order: all tribal members must gather to resist the Wei army together,” Yu Lin ordered, calling for the scattered tribal members to regroup.
If they couldn’t win, he was prepared to lead the tribe northward.
…
Oliver Sheng led his army straight to the Xianyou Tribe’s royal court, encountering almost no resistance or tribes along the way.
On the vast grassland, the wind blew low over the grass, and there were no cattle or sheep.
The Xianyou Tribe was retreating to the royal court, and there were no barbarian herders in sight.
“Such a fertile grassland, an excellent pasture for horses, how can we let these foreign tribes occupy it forever?” Oliver said, looking at the endless grassland.
“A hundred years ago, the political situation was turbulent. Da Li and Da Chu were at war with Great Wei, the Miao Territory joined the fray, the Huns were eyeing us, and the barbarians rose up, defeating the River West Army at that time. All the generals guarding the River West Army were killed, and the imperial court had no troops to deploy, allowing the barbarians to occupy this grassland,” Felix Wu explained.
“In the future, this grassland will be ours. Such a vast grassland, who knows how many warhorses it can raise.”
“The barbarians are likely pulling back their lines. We haven’t seen a single tribe along the way,” Wesley Hu remarked.
“No matter, it’s better this way. Let them gather, and we’ll wipe them out in one go,” Oliver said nonchalantly.
“Continue the march, straight to the Xianyou Tribe’s royal court.”
The army advanced grandly, reaching the Xianyou Tribe’s royal court in just two days.
Seeing the imposing Wei army approaching, Yu Lin’s expression grew serious. Although he had gathered two hundred thousand tribal warriors, the elite warriors of the Xianyou Tribe had been nearly wiped out in previous battles.
These two hundred thousand warriors could still wield swords and mount horses, but their strength was vastly inferior.
“When will the reinforcements from the Gudi and Shanrong Tribes arrive?” Yu Lin asked worriedly.
“Chief, the reinforcements from the Gudi and Shanrong Tribes will take at least another day to arrive, and their marching speed seems deliberately slow,” a general reported.
“Damn it, what do they mean by this? Are they deliberately watching us get exterminated by the Wei?” Yu Lin was furious.
All were cavalry, and they could have arrived in a day or two, but the Gudi and Shanrong Tribes were deliberately slowing down. This was clearly to let the Wei army wipe them out and then occupy the grassland and take their women and children.
“Kaden Yu, Yu Qiong, Yu Chan, lead a hundred thousand warriors and quickly migrate north with the tribe,” Yu Lin finally gave up hope.
Yu Chan was the last Grandmaster of the Xianyou Tribe, at the early stage of Grandmaster. With Yu Chan, they could ensure the tribe’s migration north without being overpowered by other tribes.
“Father!”
“Uncle!”
“Chief!”
The three were stunned. Were they really going to abandon the land they had lived on for over a hundred years?
“Hurry, preserve the tribe for the future. I will lead a hundred thousand warriors to buy you time,” Yu Lin said resolutely.
He couldn’t bear to hand over the land his people had lived on for a hundred years, but he couldn’t defend it either. The only option was to migrate north and preserve the tribe’s spark.
“Yes, Uncle!”
“Father!”
“Hurry.”
Kaden Yu, Yu Qiong, and Yu Chan led a hundred thousand warriors and began to flee north with the tribe.
Oliver Sheng’s army arrived at the Xianyou Tribe’s royal court. Seeing the barbarian army ready for a desperate fight, Oliver raised an eyebrow. Were they planning a last stand?
“Soldiers, ahead is the Xianyou Tribe. Crush them, reclaim our land, and bring glory to our ancestors. Today is the day!”
“Everyone, charge with me! Kill them all,” Oliver shouted, leading the charge.
“Kill!”
“Reclaim our land, bring glory to our ancestors!”
“Wind!”
“Wind!”
“Great wind!”
Thirty thousand cavalry, following Oliver’s three thousand heavy cavalry, charged with fervor and excitement.
Yu Lin, seeing the Wei army charging, shouted, “Warriors of the tribe, the Wei have invaded our home and slaughtered our people. For our people, for the tribe, kill the Wei dogs with me!”
He then led ten thousand cavalry in a fierce charge towards Oliver’s army.
“Kill!”
The shouts of battle echoed across the grassland. Warhorses charged, hooves clattering like thunder, shaking the earth.
The two armies collided with immense momentum, smoke billowing, war drums thundering, and battle flags fluttering in the wind, playing the symphony of death.
In an instant, the armies clashed. Oliver raised his spear and slashed, the terrifying spear light cutting Yu Lin, a mid-stage Grandmaster, in half.
The heavy cavalry, like iron beasts, trampled and slaughtered, devastating the Xianyou cavalry.
The terrifying heavy cavalry, like a sharp sword, quickly pierced through the Xianyou cavalry formation, scattering them with unparalleled might.
Wesley Hu, Xiao Chuyi, Harrison Zhou, Sawyer Shangguan, Felix Wu, and Lin Jiang led their troops, spreading out on both sides in a wedge formation, quickly cutting down the barbarian cavalry.
In just one charge, the Xianyou Tribe’s ten thousand cavalry were reduced to less than four thousand.
The terrifying power of the cavalry was unmatched.
Under the iron hooves, the ground was soaked with blood and littered with corpses.
“Kill!”
“Reclaim our land, bring glory to our ancestors!”
Oliver’s cavalry, now in a frenzy, continued to slaughter the surviving Xianyou cavalry.
Without a strong leader, and with Yu Lin slain by Oliver’s spear, the Xianyou Tribe’s ten thousand cavalry were like grass, offering little resistance.
The terrifying heavy cavalry shattered the Xianyou Tribe’s morale.
In the end, the remaining ten thousand Xianyou cavalry knelt and surrendered.
Apart from the surrendering cavalry, the rest of the Xianyou cavalry were slaughtered.
Having easily defeated the Xianyou Tribe, everyone was ecstatic.
“Victory!”
“Victory!”
The soldiers cheered, having reclaimed their land. This battle had brought glory to their ancestors, no longer just a slogan.
Wesley Hu and the others, too excited to wipe the blood from their faces, were overjoyed. The armor of all the soldiers was stained with blood, gleaming coldly.
The surrendered prisoners, trembling, looked at the terrifying Wei army.
Oliver wiped the blood from his face, revealing a faint smile.
That smile, etched in the minds of the barbarian prisoners, was the smile of a god of death.
