Chapter 14 – Gold Sponsor: Plague Mage

“`

“Ding~ Welcome to the Otherworld!”

As the system notification fell, white light descended, and Zhang Yue was born in the Safe Zone corresponding to Coastal City: Doomsday Town.

According to the agreement on the phone, Zhang Yue arrived early at the Revival Spring.

He had spent more than four hours clearing the First World by himself.

But now, Zhang Yue was confident he could take this wealthy client through the First World in two hours.

Earning four hundred thousand in two hours, this deal was a sure win!

Just as Zhang Yue was thinking about this, he saw someone cloaked in black, shrouded in a layer of dark light as if carrying some debuff, walking towards the Revival Spring!

Instinctively, Zhang Yue knew: this person was the four hundred thousand!

“Are you the one looking for a guide?” Zhang Yue directly asked the black-cloaked figure.

The black cloak didn’t speak, just nodded.

Zhang Yue then said, “Form a team, invite me, and I’ll help you complete the world mission first.”

Soon, Zhang Yue received a team invitation—

“Ding~ Professional [**] (ID hidden) invites you to join the team!”

Zhang Yue immediately accepted the invitation and led the wealthy client towards the wilderness.

On the way, the client remained silent, and Zhang Yue didn’t try to make conversation either.

Judging by the height of about 1.65 meters and the relatively slender build, the client was likely a female.

Of course, it could also be a short and thin male.

But regardless of gender, it had nothing to do with Zhang Yue.

Zhang Yue was only responsible for doing the job and getting paid!

Soon, they arrived in the wilderness.

In front of them was a level 5 monster area, with level 5 Ironclad Scorpions roaming the ruins of the city.

Taking the client directly to kill level 10 wild boars would naturally level up faster.

However, in the Otherworld, monsters more than 5 levels higher than the Professional would suppress them, making it impossible to deal even 1 point of mandatory damage if they couldn’t break the defense.

The client, although hiding their ID, didn’t hide their level, which was 0.

Level 5 Ironclad Scorpions were already the limit for them.

If they couldn’t deal even 1 point of mandatory damage, even if Zhang Yue reduced the monster’s health to 1 point, the client wouldn’t be able to kill it.

At this stage, most new Professionals were only level 4-5.

So this level 5 monster area was filled with Professionals.

They formed groups of three to five to gang up on the Ironclad Scorpions, dealing damage ranging from twenty to fifty points.

Zhang Yue’s 260 attack power was obviously overkill for level 5 Ironclad Scorpions.

Moreover, the crowded area could attract attention and interfere with his guiding task.

So, Zhang Yue replaced his level 8, 2-star [Destroyer·Frost Staff] with a level 0, 1-star [Flame Pioneer Staff].

He also removed the [Glory · Lord’s Battle Ring].

This reduced his attack power from 260 to 163 points.

He was ready to start the task of killing a thousand monsters and collecting ten Silver Coins for the client.

Suddenly, he heard some Professionals around them whispering, pointing at the client:

“Look, isn’t that the Plague Mage?”

“It really is! Always dressed like this, easy to recognize. When will she wear something new, like black stockings, haha…”

“Another one who values money over life, blinded by the thirty thousand bounty! Does he really think he can take her through the First World with his weak Beast Tamer skills?”

Hearing the discussions, the client instinctively pulled their cloak tighter and lowered their head.

“Plague Mage?” Zhang Yue turned to the client and asked, “What do they mean?”

The client turned their head away, seemingly unwilling to answer.

Oh well, Zhang Yue didn’t care to know.

He raised his staff and activated Blood Lock mode (in Blood Lock mode, enemies retain 1 point of health when dealt a fatal blow).

He locked onto a nearby level 5 Ironclad Scorpion.

Boom!

A Super Fireball Spell hit the Ironclad Scorpion.

-386!

The level 5 Ironclad Scorpion, with a total of 390 health, was instantly reduced to 1 point.

The usual 20 points of burn damage per second only burned 3 points due to Blood Lock mode, leaving the Ironclad Scorpion with 1 point of health!

Zhang Yue then said to the client, “Finish it off.”

The client, clearly shocked by Zhang Yue’s damage, hesitated for a moment before raising their staff.

Boom!

A magic orb hit the weakened Ironclad Scorpion, dealing 1 point of mandatory damage and killing it.

In the Otherworld, when two people team up to kill a monster, each gets 80% of the experience, with the last hitter getting an extra 20%.

This meant the client got 100% of the experience: 15 points!

The experience required to level up from 0 to 1 was 100 points, and the client’s experience bar shot up!

Zhang Yue’s gain was negligible, as the Otherworld’s rules stated that Professionals killing monsters lower than their level only gained 1 point of mandatory experience.

The surrounding Professionals were stunned.

“This guy… how is his damage so high?”

“He’s a hidden expert!”

“But it doesn’t matter. Didn’t a level 10 Rare Grade Warrior try to guide the Plague Mage last year? He ended up dying miserably, and it was all over the news! This guy is on a dead-end path if he doesn’t turn back!”

Zhang Yue ignored the comments and locked onto another Ironclad Scorpion.

Super Icicle Spell!

Crash!

-389 critical hit!

Again, 1 point of health left. The client swung their staff, and with a basic attack dealing 1 point of mandatory damage, finished it off.

Under Zhang Yue’s guidance, one Ironclad Scorpion after another was easily taken down.

In no time, the client leveled up to 1.

Then, golden light flashed one after another.

Level 2!

Level 3!

Level 4!

In less than ten minutes of killing Ironclad Scorpions, the client had reached level 5!

The surrounding solo Professionals, watching the client level up five times in ten minutes, looked on in disbelief.

Seeing Zhang Yue as a big shot, some Professionals tried to cozy up to him, attempting to team up.

But they were all met with cold rejection from Zhang Yue.

Seeing the client reach level 5, Zhang Yue thought to himself, “Alright, time to move to the level 10 area.”

He then prepared to take the client to Rage Forest to kill wild boars.

Just as he turned, he heard a soft hum from behind.

Turning back, he saw an Ironclad Scorpion charging at the client!

With his high Agility of 31 points, Zhang Yue dashed over, knocking the client to the ground, narrowly avoiding the Ironclad Scorpion’s attack by 0.1 seconds. He then swung his staff, and with a “boom,” killed the Ironclad Scorpion with a Fireball Spell!

As Zhang Yue stood up, the client remained on the ground, seemingly unable to recover from the shock.

Zhang Yue’s act of saving her had inexplicably touched her heart!

“Get up, let’s go,” Zhang Yue’s words brought the client back to reality.

She quickly got up and jogged to catch up with Zhang Yue.

On the way to Rage Forest, the two remained silent.

Zhang Yue glanced at the client following him with her head down and asked, “How old are you, forty thousand?”

The client still didn’t speak, only raised two slender fingers, then another finger with the other hand.

“21?” Zhang Yue asked in confusion, “Everyone awakens their Profession at 18. Shouldn’t you have entered the Otherworld three years ago? Why are you still level 0?”

At that moment, the client suddenly stopped.

Zhang Yue turned back, “What’s wrong?”

A soft girl’s voice came from the client’s mouth, “You should go. Stop guiding me!”
