Chapter 26 – Half

Beside the giant python’s body, Ye Shuangluo lit a fire, sharpened some branches, and prepared to have snake meat for lunch.

Interestingly, Shan Ren claimed to be a vegetarian and didn’t like eating meat.

Ye Shuangluo understood this.

Using Mortal Kill, he chopped off a few pieces of meat, skewered them on the branches, and started roasting.

One had to admit, chopping meat was also a form of knife training.

As you chop, you gradually understand how much force to use with each cut, where to chop, and what posture to use.

It’s worth mentioning that while Ye Shuangluo was roasting the meat, the White Tiger was hiding to the side, almost drooling with hunger, tears uncontrollably streaming down its mouth.

Such a large python, he couldn’t finish it all by himself, so he chopped off a piece of over twenty pounds and tossed it over.

With a howl, the White Tiger leaped up and caught the piece of snake meat, then squatted down and started devouring it.

Watching the White Tiger gnawing on raw meat, Ye Shuangluo thought that at least it had worked hard for him, pulling the cart all morning.

He couldn’t treat it too poorly, so he tossed a piece of roasted snake meat in front of it.

The White Tiger took a bite of the cooked meat, then spat it out immediately, looking disgusted and resistant.

It seemed that it still preferred raw meat over cooked.

Ye Shuangluo couldn’t be bothered to care; after all, it had been eating raw meat for at least a decade and it hadn’t died yet.

At this moment, Ye Shuangluo’s attention was entirely focused on the snake gallbladder in front of him, which he had just dug out from the giant python.

Perhaps because the python’s body was enormous, its gallbladder was much larger than usual, about the size of a regular basketball.

[Half-Dragon Snake Gallbladder]

[Type: Special Item]

[Quality: Blue]

[Effect: Increases Health Points limit by 200, Skin Defense by 10 after consumption. Small chance to comprehend the special skill “Dragon Might.”]

[Consumption Requirement: Constitution and Strength both above 10 points]

[Evaluation: This gallbladder contains the essence of a leader-level giant python. It was a poor creature on the verge of transforming into a dragon, but it encountered someone it shouldn’t have.]

After reading the evaluation, Ye Shuangluo held the Pluto around his neck, feeling a bit regretful. Pluto was just one leader-level enemy away from advancing.

Oh well, there would be more opportunities in the future.

Ye Shuangluo brought the gallbladder to his mouth, the enticing aroma wafting from it. Without hesitation, he took a bite.

As soon as he bit down, his mouth was filled with juice.

The taste wasn’t fishy but sweet, similar to a carbonated drink, but even more refreshing.

He devoured the entire gallbladder, and after finishing, he still wanted more.

How to describe it?

It was like entering an air-conditioned room and drinking a whole bottle of iced beverage after sweating profusely from intense exercise on a scorching summer day.

[Congratulations on eating a special delicacy, “Gourmet Hunter” progress +1]

[Current progress: 3/5]

Seeing the “Gourmet Hunter” progress increase again, Ye Shuangluo felt invigorated.

Just two more to go, victory was in sight.

However, it was a bit disappointing that he still hadn’t comprehended the “Dragon Might” skill.

It seemed his Luck attribute wasn’t high enough. Ye Shuangluo couldn’t help but shake his head. Last time, he didn’t comprehend a skill after injecting “Essence Liquid” either.

It seemed it was indeed a small probability, perhaps one in a thousand or even less.

Ye Shuangluo ate the roasted snake meat while his thoughts wandered.

After eating and drinking his fill, he looked at the massive python corpse in front of him and felt a bit troubled.

He didn’t want to expose his space backpack to avoid unnecessary trouble.

Although he knew it was a pity to leave so much meat here, he had no other choice.

Seeing Ye Shuangluo’s reluctance to part with the giant python, Shan Ren smiled slightly. The ring on his finger flashed with a dark light, and the python’s corpse disappeared instantly.

Seeing this familiar scene, Ye Shuangluo was a bit incredulous. He hadn’t used his space backpack.

“If Brother Ye likes this python meat so much, I’ll store it for you to eat on the way,” Shan Ren said.

Ye Shuangluo pretended to be surprised and asked, “Store it for me? Could it be that Brother Shan made the python disappear?”

Shan Ren raised his hand, showing the ring, and introduced, “Yes, I stored the python in my ring.”

Ye Shuangluo looked at Shan Ren’s ring, and its attributes instantly appeared.

[Exquisite Space Ring]

[Type: Equipment (Accessory)]

[Quality: Blue]

[Special Effect: Inner World (Space area 1000 cubic meters, can store living creatures)]

[Durability: 100/100]

[Evaluation: This ring is made from the skull of a Void King Beast. Unlike that crude, ordinary sachet, it is exquisitely crafted and practical, clearly made with care by its creator.]

A space ring.

Ye Shuangluo never expected Shan Ren to have such a high-end item.

“I’m truly enlightened. I didn’t know such treasures existed in this world. How did Brother Shan obtain it?”

“Haha, it’s nothing special, just a little trinket I made when I had some free time. If Brother Ye likes it, I can give you one next time.”

Facing Shan Ren’s enthusiasm, Ye Shuangluo shook his head and declined the offer.

“No, thank you. I can’t accept such a gift without earning it.”

Seeing Ye Shuangluo’s lack of interest in the treasure, Shan Ren didn’t say much, just slowly rubbed the space ring.

Honestly, this scene was quite creepy, considering the ring was made from a skull.

Ye Shuangluo could only tell himself that at least it had been processed.

But to nonchalantly caress a skull-made artifact, Shan Ren was indeed a tough character.

Not wanting to watch this unsettling scene any longer, Ye Shuangluo asked, “Brother Shan, I know it might be a bit presumptuous, but I’m really curious about what you have in your bamboo basket.”

Hearing Ye Shuangluo’s question, Shan Ren didn’t say much. He took the bamboo basket off his shoulder and carefully opened the lid.

Inside was a very beautiful little snake, so beautiful that if one didn’t look closely, they might think it was carved from jade.

With ruby-like eyes and a jade-green body, the little snake looked like the most perfect piece of art.

Shan Ren extended his hand, gently rubbing the little snake’s body with his fingertip, his gaze and tone incredibly tender.

“His name is Jade, and he’s my family.”

Treating a snake as family, Shan Ren indeed exuded an eerie vibe.

Suddenly, Ye Shuangluo had a bold thought. Could Shan Ren also be a snake?

If he were a snake… how old would he be to have transformed into human form?

When he descended into this world, the game system had given him some knowledge about it.

Spirits couldn’t transform into humans; this was almost an ironclad rule in this world.

But only almost. There were still some spirits that could transform into humans, though they were fewer than a handful.

Shan Ren seemed to sense his gaze and turned back with a smile.

The smile was still as warm and sunny, but it felt terrifying to Ye Shuangluo.

Ye Shuangluo always felt that Shan Ren’s gaze towards him, the twins in the cage, and the White Tiger was the same.

That gaze was familiar, but he couldn’t recall where he had seen it before.

Now he suddenly remembered. It was the same gaze his classmate had when they were assigned to raise mealworms in pairs and write observation diaries in elementary school.

That classmate had looked at the mealworms with the same gaze.
