Chapter 16 – Breath of Nature

“One day, I will skin you alive in front of Big Jin’s grave.”

Ye Shuangluo glanced at the white fox girl inside the prison cart, her face twisted in madness. He was curious where this fox got the confidence to escape.

Even if she could escape, who gave her the confidence to kill him?

If looks could kill, Ye Shuangluo believed he would have been dismembered by these two foxes a thousand times over, enduring all kinds of torture.

In fact, if he wasn’t worried that killing these two foxes would affect his main quest evaluation, he would have sent them to join that Mandrillus sphinx by now.

But just because he couldn’t kill them for now didn’t mean he would tolerate their verbal attacks indefinitely.

“You said you would skin me alive in front of this beast’s grave. Forget it, you can’t do it.”

As he dragged Big Jin’s corpse to the fire, the white fox initially didn’t realize what he was doing.

But when she saw Ye Shuangluo sharpen a branch and skewer Big Jin’s leg meat on it to roast over the fire, she understood his intentions.

The white fox girl began to frantically bang against the prison cart, cursing non-stop:

“You damned bastard! You should go to hell! I’ll kill you.”

Ignoring the white fox’s curses, Ye Shuangluo focused on roasting the meat.

After a while, the aroma of the meat assaulted his enhanced senses.

He brought the roasted meat to his mouth, suddenly remembering a question: Is this thing poisonous?

But he quickly dismissed the thought. If it had any poisonous abilities, it would have been used against him already.

He took a small bite of the meat, and his eyes lit up instantly.

Delicious, very delicious.

Even without any seasoning, the meat was surprisingly tender and flavorful.

Was it because the creature was a spirit beast, and its meat had become more delicious after years of cultivation?

Thinking of this, Ye Shuangluo glanced at the two fox girls in the prison cart.

At that moment, even the usually outspoken white fox curled up in a corner, hiding.

She wasn’t stupid. After seeing him eat Big Jin and then look at her and her sister with interest, his intentions were clear.

But Ye Shuangluo soon looked away, which made her breathe a sigh of relief. Yet, she felt a surge of anger for feeling grateful that he didn’t intend to kill her.

Ye Shuangluo regretted that these twins were in human form; he naturally couldn’t bring himself to eat them.

As he savored the meat, his talent suddenly activated.

[Congratulations, you have triggered the achievement: Gourmet]

[Achievement Description: Taste five unique delicacies]

[Current Progress: 1/5]

Five unique delicacies—this “unique” was quite broad. What counted as unique?

Ye Shuangluo thought for a moment and concluded that spirit beasts and exotic creatures, which ordinary people couldn’t eat, naturally counted as unique delicacies.

This achievement didn’t need to be rushed. In a world full of spirit beasts, there would always be opportunities to kill four more.

After eating and drinking his fill, Ye Shuangluo prepared to open the treasure chest dropped by the Mandrillus sphinx.

With a thought, the chest slowly opened, and a blinding white light flashed before his eyes.

……

Ye Shuangluo rubbed his eyes. Was his luck turning?

Killing a small Mandrillus sphinx had given him such good equipment.

He immediately equipped Breath of Nature, and a warm current enveloped his entire body.

The special effect of Breath of Nature restored 5 Health Points per second, plus 2 Health Points per second from Wind Affinity.

Combined, he could now restore 7 Health Points per second. Although Health Points couldn’t be fully quantified, based on the formula, his maximum Health Points were around 240.

In other words, no matter how badly he was injured, as long as he had a breath left, he could fully recover in a minute.

This greatly enhanced his survival and endurance in battles.

Just entering the Trial World and obtaining such useful equipment put him in a good mood.

With this pleasant feeling, he leaned against a tree and slowly fell asleep.

……

Upon waking, Ye Shuangluo stretched lazily. The morning breeze was exceptionally gentle, lightly brushing his face.

He felt in top condition and immediately picked up Mortal Kill, which he had been holding while sleeping, and began practicing.

With spiritual power, the once difficult-to-control wind element became as obedient as a kitten.

He could not only attach the wind element to his weapon for attacks but also infuse it into any part of his body to enhance himself.

However, doing so consumed his spiritual power. Fortunately, he currently had no equipment or skills that required spiritual power.

After practicing infusing the wind element into his body and basic blade techniques, he felt that with a bit more practice, his Blade Mastery skill could level up again.

Perhaps because the skill level was low, leveling up was currently easy.

After finishing his blade practice, Ye Shuangluo sat back on the carriage, ready to continue his journey.

The road was unusually quiet. The white fox girl, who had been barking non-stop last night, seemed like a different person, except for her still venomous gaze.

Ye Shuangluo found it quite pleasant. He didn’t like noise, and this was just right.

As for why the white fox girl had changed, he didn’t care. Even if a biting dog didn’t bark, what difference did it make?

If the dog had any intention of biting, he would just kill it. No matter what schemes or plots the white fox had, he didn’t care.

If she provoked him, he would kill her.

Thus, the three of them traveled in silence, continuing their journey.

By noon, Ye Shuangluo stopped the carriage, threw some dry food into the prison cart, and jumped off the carriage to lean against a tree, ready to enjoy his prepared meal.

“Whoa!”

A sudden urgent voice called out. Ye Shuangluo looked in the direction of the sound and saw a young man on a white horse rushing toward them.

Ye Shuangluo placed his hand on Mortal Kill, ready to fight if the newcomer had ill intentions.

But the young man on the white horse had no intention of fighting.

He stopped in front of the carriage and jumped off his horse. When he saw the twin girls in the prison cart, they also saw him.

The white fox girl instantly broke her silence, rushing to the iron bars and desperately reaching out to grab the young man.

“You pig! My sister saved you, and you got us into this mess!”

Oh?

Ye Shuangluo looked at the young man with interest. So this was the little medicine boy who caused the twins to be captured.

But why was the white fox girl going crazy again? Was this a breaking point?

“Miss White, I’m sorry. It’s my fault.”

The medicine boy knelt on the ground, his head repeatedly hitting the ground until it was bleeding.

“I know you didn’t mean it, but my family died because of you, so I hate you.”

The silver fox girl’s voice was devoid of emotion, only endless calm and coldness.

The medicine boy’s face was already covered in tears and blood, mixing and flowing down his face.

He kept muttering, “I’m sorry, Miss White.”

Ye Shuangluo shook his head. This was the sorrow of the weak. Because they were weak, they were treated as objects, gifts to please the powerful.

He quietly gripped his blade. He didn’t want to experience the helplessness felt by the twins and the medicine boy.

So he needed to become stronger, a force that no one could control or dare to provoke.

Ye Shuangluo made a silent vow, and the medicine boy stopped his apologies.

He slowly stood up and knelt again in Ye Shuangluo’s direction.

“Bodyguard, please allow me to accompany you.”

“Accompany me?”

Ye Shuangluo’s gaze lingered on the medicine boy. “Give me a reason to agree.”

“I’ve saved some money over the years as a medicine boy, and my master recently gave me some reward money. Altogether, I have about 800 taels of silver. I’m willing to give it all to you.”

Is the currency in this world so devalued? How could a medicine boy have so much?

But Ye Shuangluo seriously considered it. The currency might not mean much to him, but it could be useful.

“Alright, I agree. But I have a condition: you take care of these two. I really don’t want to feed them.”

“Deal, I agree.”

The medicine boy immediately agreed and respectfully handed Ye Shuangluo a silver note.

Ye Shuangluo took the note and seemingly casually put it in his clothes, but actually stored it in his space backpack.

……

After traveling for another afternoon, they finally emerged from the forest and reached the main road.

As they rested for the night, the medicine boy Lin Xingchen quietly approached Ye Shuangluo with a fawning smile.

“Bodyguard, ahead is the Tian Nan Mountain Range. Should we prepare to take a detour?”

Ye Shuangluo looked at Lin Xingchen without speaking, but his aura instantly intimidated Lin Xingchen, who hurriedly explained:

“Bodyguard, I don’t mean to underestimate you, but the Tian Nan Mountain Range is infested with bandits. If we don’t take a detour, I’m afraid something might happen.”

Before Ye Shuangluo could respond, the game system’s voice suddenly echoed in his mind.
