Chapter 9 – The first “collectible”

Looking at the map in his hand, Ye Shuangluo suddenly seemed to think of something and commanded:

"You just said you have the heart of Zombie No. 0. Take it out and let me see."

The young man didn't dare to refuse. He operated the instrument twice, and instantly, the floor in the center of the room split open. A table with a glass cover slowly rose from the ground.

Ye Shuangluo's gaze was immediately drawn to the heart of Zombie No. 0 inside the glass cover.

[Collectible: Heart of Zombie No. 0]

[Effect: After placing it in the collection room, it increases the player's Virus Resistance by 10% and boosts damage against all types of zombies by 10%.]

Unlike the zombie hearts he had seen before, the heart in front of him was like a piece of art, as fragile as crystal, as if a gentle touch could destroy it.

The most amazing thing was that even though it had left the Mother, it was still beating slowly.

Without hesitation, Ye Shuangluo stored it in his space backpack and then asked, "This thing is mine now. Any objections?"

"No, you can take it."

Faced with Ye Shuangluo's method of taking first and asking later, the young man felt as if his heart was bleeding. Without the heart of Zombie No. 0, he could no longer create special mutant zombies like Yin and Chen.

But at this moment, he was the fish on the chopping board, with no right to choose.

Finally, Ye Shuangluo prepared to leave. The young man breathed a long sigh of relief, watching his back, ready to see off this harbinger of doom.

Unexpectedly, Ye Shuangluo suddenly turned around, looking at him coldly, and asked:

"Did you just step with your left foot first?"

Huh?

The young man was stunned. What did it matter which foot he stepped with first?

"You stepped with your left foot first. It seems you don't respect me."

Bang!

Ye Shuangluo shot the young man's head off without hesitation, then turned and left without a second glance.

Following the mission guide, Ye Shuangluo quickly arrived at the location of Zombie No. 0.

But he also understood that getting inside wouldn't be easy.

After all, within his line of sight, at least a hundred zombies were tightly surrounding the entrance to the underground.

The most crucial part was that these zombies' eyes were not gray-white but blood-red.

This meant they were not mindless corpses but monsters that would go berserk and hunt humans upon sight.

"This is troublesome. In broad daylight, why are all these zombies red-eyed? Is it something Qi did, or… is it the ability of No. 0?"

He didn't know the answer to the question, but he didn't need to. He only needed to know one thing.

Could he kill all these zombies by himself? If not, how could he lure them away?

After some thought, he decided to use the simplest and most brutal method: kill all the zombies, and there would be no obstacles.

However, he wouldn't charge in unprepared. Glancing at a nearby alley, he silently counted down in his heart, getting ready.

He took out his Wind Chaser Type I and shot at the distant zombie horde.

Without waiting to see the result, he immediately ran towards the narrow alley.

Almost halfway through the alley, he turned and drew his Mortal Kill, facing the horde of crazed zombies, beginning his slaughter.

He had noticed that the alley was narrow, only allowing three people to pass side by side at most.

Thus, in this narrow alley, no matter how much the zombies wanted to tear him to pieces, only three could approach at a time.

Clearly, if he only had to face three zombies at once, it shouldn't be too difficult.

In the narrow alley, as the zombies in front fell, those behind would immediately fill the gap.

Ye Shuangluo fought and retreated, not daring to relax for a moment, his Mortal Kill continuously harvesting the enemies' lives.

He could feel that amidst the endless slaughter, something seemed to be brewing.

After an unknown amount of time, the dense horde of zombies had dwindled to almost nothing.

With a few more slashes, he killed the last few zombies and walked out of the alley, stepping on their corpses.

During the battle, he had been hit by zombies a few times, causing his clothes to be torn to shreds. Fortunately, these zombies didn't have the ability to infect others through scratches.

Moreover, he had "Wind Affinity," which restored two Health Points per second, allowing him to kill all the zombies successfully.

Now that the obstacles were cleared, it was time to claim his victory spoils.

With a mix of excitement and anxiety, he slowly walked down through the entrance.

To his surprise, the underground seemed to be an air raid shelter.

And it wasn't just any air raid shelter; various supplies were scattered all over the place. Outside, people fought to the death for a bit of supplies, but here, these precious items were discarded like trash.

However, it seemed only one person lived here, along with a half-dead zombie Mother, so they didn't need such a large amount of supplies.

As Ye Shuangluo ventured deeper, he reached the innermost part of the shelter, facing a round door.

A piece of paper was stuck to the door. Ye Shuangluo reached out and tore it down, beginning to read:

"If you're here for supplies, they're all outside. Take whatever you want."

This… must have been written by Qi.

If he were a native, he might have chosen to take the supplies and leave.

But he wasn't. He wasn't here for the supplies; his target was only one: No. 0.

According to the mission guide, No. 0 should be behind this door. He was already at the doorstep; there was no turning back.

He directly stabbed his blade into the door, turned it clockwise, and then pulled it out, creating a circular hole big enough for him to enter.

When Ye Shuangluo entered, he found the space inside surprisingly small, about 50 square meters.

So he immediately saw a young man with a lovesick smile, and the object of his affection: a girl with a large gash in her chest, soaking in nutrient fluid.

Perhaps sensing someone behind him, the young man turned around suspiciously, seeing a boy who had somehow broken in.

"You, how did you get in here?"

When he noticed Ye Shuangluo's gaze fixed on No. 0 behind him, he panicked but tried to maintain his composure, saying, "You can take all the supplies outside. You see, I have nothing here. If you try anything, I'll fight you to the death."

"Idiot, his vitality is terrifying. If you provoke him, the fish will die, but the net will remain intact."

A cold, ethereal female voice suddenly sounded. Qi looked at the girl in the nutrient fluid in disbelief, asking in surprise:

"Great, No. 0, have you finally recovered? I've always been worried about you, afraid you would never wake up."

The girl in the nutrient fluid still had her eyes closed, looking like a sleeping beauty, truly pitiful.
