Chapter 64 – First Encounter with Mo Luo

Inside an abandoned building.

A monster with the heads of a tiger, a leopard, and a python was desperately fleeing.

Judging by its terrified expression and the wounds covering its body, something horrifying must be chasing it.

Swish, swish, swish!

Several wind blades flew over, slicing off its two hind legs and snake tail.

Thud!

Losing the support of its hind legs, the three-headed monster lost its balance, and all three heads uncontrollably crashed into a nearby pillar.

At that moment, the voices of two men echoed through the empty building.

“This thing’s meat is like paper, no taste at all, really disgusting.”

“Well, it’s just a monster derived from ghost stories, not a real beast.”

The two men quickly appeared before the three-headed monster. When it saw the younger of the two, its massive body began to tremble.

Seeing this, Ye Shuangluo curiously asked Huo Ling beside him, “Do these monsters also feel fear?”

“Yes, some monsters are designed to have intelligence not inferior to humans, and some even far surpass humans.”

Huo Ling glanced at the trembling three-headed monster and then at its wound, his mouth twitching slightly.

The rule of “Dawn” was that teams consisted of two people. Just before Ye Shuangluo arrived, Huo Ling’s previous partner had exceeded the Nightmare Index and became an aberrant.

So Ye Shuangluo became Huo Ling’s new teammate.

Although Huo Ling himself was close to becoming an aberrant, he insisted on familiarizing Ye Shuangluo with the process.

However…

Huo Ling recalled boasting to the newcomer earlier, telling him not to be afraid, that he would protect him.

But when they arrived on-site, the newcomer quickly dealt with the monster in just a few moves.

The most absurd part was that after defeating the monster, the newcomer cut a piece of meat from its leg and started roasting it.

Huo Ling: I’ve seen it all! (crossed out)

Huo Ling: I’ve never seen anything like this!

Giggle!

Ye Shuangluo slashed off all three of the monster’s heads, ending its life completely.

“Alright, this thing won’t come out again for a week.”

Huo Ling watched as the monster’s body slowly disappeared, taking out his phone to record the kill time.

“Although I volunteered to familiarize you, it seems you don’t need my help.”

Huo Ling scratched his head awkwardly, feeling a bit like a failed mentor.

Ye Shuangluo didn’t say much and started to “zone out” again.

[Achievement: “Ghost Story Killer” progress +1

[Achievement: “Infamous” progress +37

Current progress: 52/ (Spread your infamy through various means)]

To Ye Shuangluo, it didn’t matter who he teamed up with, but weaker teammates were better.

Because if the teammate was weak enough, they wouldn’t steal his damage.

Huo Ling was a great teammate.

After all, he was a battle support.

Before coming, they already knew each other’s abilities.

Ye Shuangluo claimed he could control wind and ice and had some knife skills.

As for Huo Ling’s ability, it was straightforward.

[Your teammate has cast “Blessing” on you, increasing the recovery speed of Health Points and Spiritual Power]

According to him, his ability could increase his teammate’s stamina.

For Ye Shuangluo, this manifested as faster recovery of Health Points and Spiritual Power.

However, his ability had a drawback. Every time he buffed a teammate, their Nightmare Index would spike after the battle.

So Huo Ling had already changed three teammates.

Of course, for Ye Shuangluo, who had no Nightmare Index, no one was more suitable than Huo Ling.

He could buff and wouldn’t steal his damage.

Perfect.

Unfortunately, this perfect teammate was soon going to headquarters for recovery and couldn’t stay on the front line.

After dealing with the monster, as they walked out of the abandoned building, Huo Ling suddenly fell to his knees, coughing up blood uncontrollably.

“Are you starting to aberrate?”

Ye Shuangluo stood by with his knife, ready to help his teammate find peace.

Aberration was irreversible; once it started, it had to be dealt with immediately.

“No… cough cough, I’m poisoned.”

Poisoned? Ye Shuangluo instinctively checked his status bar, finding no negative status.

Why was he fine?

Caw, caw, caw.

Suddenly, a flock of crows appeared in the sky, forming two rows like trained soldiers, leaving a space for a person in the middle.

In the next second, surrounded by countless crows, a young man in a black suit and hat appeared before them.

The young man politely took off his hat and bowed.

“Greetings, I am—”

Swish!

Before he could finish, a wind blade flew straight at him.

Caw!

Several crows fearlessly blocked the blade for him.

The young man didn’t seem to care about the crows that died for him and even joked, “Interrupting someone isn’t very gentlemanly, you know.”

Swish, swish, swish!

In response, several ice spikes flew at him.

This time, the crows didn’t have time to block, and the spikes pierced his throat, heart, and limbs.

He slowly knelt and fell to the ground.

Surprisingly, even with his heart pierced, he didn’t die immediately.

“You’re quite decisive. I admire you. Dawn doesn’t suit you. How about joining us at Eternal Night?”

Ye Shuangluo walked up to him, looking down, and asked, “You’re about to die, and you’re still recruiting me?”

“Oh, it’s fine. This isn’t my real body anyway.”

Ye Shuangluo nodded, indicating he understood, then raised his long knife.

Giggle!

The blade pierced the young man’s head, ending the body’s life.

“Cough, cough, he’s Mo Luo, a core member of Eternal Night. His ability is to steal others’ bodies. His real body must be nearby.”

Huo Ling, still coughing blood, reminded from the side.

Ye Shuangluo didn’t pursue, unable to sense any life nearby.

And his teammate was severely injured, coughing up blood. If he left, someone might come and kill his teammate.

So he gave up the chase, taking a small antidote from his space backpack and pouring it into Huo Ling’s mouth.

Gulp, gulp!

After drinking the small antidote, Huo Ling immediately stopped coughing blood.

He moved his body in disbelief and even buffed Ye Shuangluo.

“What did you give me? The poison was cured instantly. Do you have more?”

Faced with Huo Ling’s curious questioning, Ye Shuangluo chose silence.

After asking, Huo Ling seemed to remember something, slapping his head and urgently saying, “We need to get back quickly. The poison in me accumulated over time. There’s a mole at home.”
